Mount Olive At A Glance
The Mt. Olive Baptist Church week begins at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday with breakfast, prepared by the Breakfast Ministry that is served without charge to all attending Sunday school. The Breakfast Ministry consists of four team members. With each member being assigned to a Sunday.
At 9:30 a.m. Sunday school begins and it concludes at 10:30 a.m. It is never too early or too late to learn! We have classes beginning with the two-year-olds and we are blessed to have senior students who are in their 90's. During February, the Sunday school puts on its annual Black History Month program. This is held during the Sunday school hour. The Easter celebration program is held in March/April. The achievement/Promotion program is held in September. In December the annual Christmas Program is held.
Mount Olive holds its weekly worship service on Sunday beginning with praise and worship at 10:45 a.m. On the first Sunday at approximately 12:45 p.m. all members come together for the celebration of Holy Communion. On the third Sunday, all members worship in the sanctuary, and the youth take leadership of the service. Baptism is held every fourth Sunday. The right hand of fellowship is held every first Sunday. Additional learning opportunities are provided with Prayer service on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. With Bible study immediately following at 7:00 p.m.
The church publishes an annual Mt. Olive Baptist Church Special Days List that identifies dates for standing events at the church. Monthly calendars are also distributed to keep our members "in the know" about all events.
The businesses of the church, such as events, finances, etc. are discussed during church meetings that occur quarterly. Special or "call" meetings occur as required. Notice of all meetings is given in advance in church announcements. Quarterly meetings are listed on the Annual Special Days List.
Installation of church officers takes place on the second Sunday in January at the close of the 10:45 a.m. service. All ministers, deacons, deaconesses, clerks, and elected presidents, and chairpersons of ministry groups are installed.
Historically, The Rainbow Tea, which took place in March, officially kicked for Men's Day and Women's Day. This event features a "smorgasbord" presented by the various color groups. All males belong to the Red color group and females under the age of 18 are in the pink group. Females over the age of 18 are expected to join and work with one of several color groups: Green, Yellow, Purple, Orange, Indigo(for young men 18 and under), or Blue.
The Annual Church Revival takes place in April. This consists of three evening services held on Wednesday Thursday and Friday nights.
In May we celebrate Mother's Day with a breakfast sponsored by the Sunday School and presentations to honor mothers during the Sunday School hour.
We honor our senior citizens (age 55 and older) with a weekend in May. There is usually a lunch activity on Saturday and the seniors lead the Worship service on Sunday. The Golden Circle Singers, our seniors' choir, serve on that Sunday. The Golden Circle Singers also serve the church by singing in worship each fifth Sunday, the day we honor our Missionary Ministry.
Since one of our primary objectives is to focus on the youth, an important time for us is when we celebrate Youth Week. This occurs the second week in June. On Sunday of that week, the youth lead us in the 10:45 a.m. worship experience. For the rest of the week, the celebration takes various forms such as poetry reading, saluting our Champions in the Community, staging a fashion show, holding revival preaching services, having concerts, and/or participating in worship and praise services.
In June we also celebrate Father's Day with a breakfast sponsored by the Sunday School and presentations to honor fathers during the Sunday School hour.
